The Conservation District has a major emphasis of promoting wise land use management through their environmental education and outreach programs. The Spencer County Conservation District believes that long term changes to address environmental concerns can only be made through educational programs that begin with our youth. See our programs below or check out the links on the side. 4-H Camp Scholarships Each year we offer funding that provides free tuition for several youth. In 2008 this scholarship was available for five individuals. For more information contact Mollie Tichenor at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This year Ms Brown's class at the Spencer Co. Middle School also received 200 trees. The species are different each year. The 2010 tree seedling program was a big success. We distributed trees on April 15th and 16th. We had a total of 9500 trees this year to distribute to the children and the public. The seedlings consisted of white pine, redbud, flowering dogwood, pin oak, yellow poplar and pecan. Click Here to view the seedling order form. Soil Stewardship Soil Stewardship materials are delivered to our schools for grades preschool to the 5th grade and churches each year for Soil Stewardship Week, usually in April, to educate the public on the importance of conserving our natural resources. Ag Field Days The district participates in field days held by the Spencer County Extension Office. We also help sponsor the agricultural day for elementary students. |
